Someone picked a fight with me on the street, so I called the police

I was passing by a restaurant a little while ago when some crazy guy in his 60s eating alone inside suddenly started shouting insults and saying all sorts of weird things. When I approached him to ask what his problem was, he lit a cigarette and spat on me with all his might;; I really wanted to hit him, but I held back and called the police. I wrote a statement, and they told me to come to the station if they contact me later.
What should I do with this guy? The restaurant staff are witnesses and there is CCTV, so I think I'll be able to check it tomorrow..
