While the 38th parallel is a shorter straight-line distance to Seoul compared to the Armistice Line,
it is said to be more difficult when advancing south with tanks, etc.
Instead of taking the shortest route, they must advance south following the terrain;
the Armistice Line was secured to cover areas that are easier to traverse along the terrain.
