(Seoul=News1) Reporter Kim Hak-jin = A post by an emergency medical technology student claiming they were nearly sued for sexual harassment after performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on a female student who lost consciousness in a valley is gaining attention online.
On the 29th, a post titled "I'm about to become a criminal after performing CPR on a collapsed young woman" was uploaded to an online community.
Person A, who identified as an emergency medical technology student and a holder of a Level 1 Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) license, claimed to have discovered a female student, presumed to be a middle schooler, who had lost consciousness while visiting a valley with friends.
A explained that they rushed over without delay, obtained consent from the student's mother (the guardian), called 119, and personally began CPR.
"She had no pulse or breathing," A said. "After receiving consent from the guardian, I unhooked her bra to perform CPR, and medical personnel arrived about 10 to 15 minutes later to take over."
A continued, "I was told by the firefighters that I performed the first aid well, and the student was transported to the hospital with her breathing and pulse returned to normal."
However, something unexpected happened afterward. A reported, "A few hours later, the student's father told me he would sue for sexual harassment regarding unhooking the bra and touching her chest during CPR. He said he would submit a medical certificate for injury, claiming her ribs were fractured, and demanded a settlement of 5 to 8 million won."
A further lamented, "I received a summons from the police. They told me to come in this morning for an investigation. My dream is to be a firefighter, and I am terrified of what kind of punishment I might face and whether I will become a criminal due to such an unfair situation."
As the story spread, netizens reacted with sympathy, saying, "If people experience this while trying to save a life in an emergency, who would step forward to rescue others?", "We live in a world where you have to look the other way even when someone is dying," and "Rib fractures can occur during CPR, but I can't believe parents would seek compensation for that."
Meanwhile, A claimed that the case was subsequently closed with no charges, and an investigation regarding charges of obstruction of official duties is underway against the student's father.
However, after A's story was shared, some doubts were raised regarding certain facts.
An active firefighter stated, "The author introduced themselves as an emergency medical technology student and a Level 1 EMT license holder, but typically, students cannot take the national exam for Level 1 EMT until after graduation, making it difficult to hold that qualification while still a student. This part of the claim may be misleading."
