I watched The Zone of Interest

It was much more niche than I expected,
and the style will definitely divide opinion.
The dialogue is kept to a minimum,
just enough to guide the flow of the story, and there is almost no BGM.
Instead, the sound effects and background noise
are what drive the film forward. If you prefer fast-paced and stimulating plots,
there is a 90% chance you'll fall asleep halfway through.
However, the visual beauty, camera work, and direction are truly insane.
Watching it feels like an eye-opening experience.
Specifically, the screen shows the peaceful and
tranquil daily life inside the fence, while the background audio
is filled with the screams and gunfire of Auschwitz from beyond the fence.
The dissonance of seeing them discuss efficient processing methods
so nonchalantly right next to that was truly chilling.
The actors' tones don't even feel like acting;
it feels like watching a documentary
where someone secretly filmed the daily lives of people from that era.
Since Nazi or concentration camp themes are so common, I was worried it might be cliché,
but because the direction utilizes sound rather than just sight,
it was fresher than I expected.
To be honest, there were some slightly boring parts in the middle,
but after finishing it, the lingering impression is strong,
and I'm satisfied, feeling like I've watched a truly great film.
