While the culture of gender hatred certainly plays a role,
I suspect a bigger cause is that the current generation is reluctant to expend emotional energy or commit themselves to someone else, believing that they themselves are the most important priority, regardless of gender.
There are also so many other things to enjoy these days, such as fandom activities and sports.
It is ironic that we are living in an era flooded with dating shows, but perhaps people are consuming them like watching a sports match—
getting vicarious satisfaction without the actual risks of a real relationship.
