Honestly, wasn't margarine tastier than butter?

I've been eating butter because of trans fats, but wasn't margarine actually more savory and delicious?
Even when spreading it on bread and toasting it, margarine was much more flavorful..
I've had to stop eating margarine and switch to butter because they say it's bad for your health due to trans fats, though.
