It is so difficult even though we share the same Christian faith (Seeking advice)
I attended church until high school, and although I didn't attend during my 20s and 30s, I still held Christian beliefs in my heart. Two years ago, I met my wife, who attends church, and we got married.
I thought it would be fine as long as I just accompanied her to church on Sundays... but the problems are as follows:
1. Church services end too late (If the service starts at 10:00, it ends at 12:30, and since the members do the cleaning, it's almost 1:00 PM by the time we finish ;;)
2. Sermons that pressure people to give offerings - Half of the sermon time is spent talking about offerings. They hold revival meetings about twice a year, but the conclusion is always that if you give a lot, you will prosper..
3. Forced labor - Every two or three months, there is a deep cleaning or renovation work (working hard until around 3:00 PM).
4. Forced district worship - They don't meet in person, but they hold Zoom worship every Saturday (The service isn't long, only about 20 minutes, but they interrogate you about what happened in your life). It's not that the worship itself is difficult, but there is a certain pressure of having to participate on a Saturday evening.
5. My wife's offerings - Even though we are in a situation where we have debt, she offers 1 to 3 million won during revival meetings (She also gives monthly tithes and Sunday offerings).
If I bring it up, I feel like we'll fight, but if I don't, it's too exhausting.
This isn't a normal church, is it?
For your information, my entire in-law's family attends this same church, so if I miss even one week, they ask, "Son-in-law, are you sick? Why didn't you come?" It's such a hassle to answer that I just go even when I'm sick.
