When equipping gear and items in an RPG

In RPG games, there is equipment you can equip for each slot, right?
Headgear, armor, weapons, gloves, legs, rings, necklaces, and so on.
But why is everything expressed as "wearing/putting on" (kkinda)? Do you all use it that way too?
"Putting on" Battle Boots, "putting on" Skeleton Armor, "putting on" an Elemental Necklace, "putting on" a shield, etc..
In fact, even "kkida" is technically incorrect; "kkiuda" is the original correct term...
The correct expressions should be: you "wear" armor, "put on" boots, "hang" a necklace, or "hold" a weapon or shield.
Since these are the correct ways to say it, why does everyone just say "kkida"? What is the origin of this?
