Discouraging formal suits for civil service interviews?

People wear suits for interviews at SMEs too.
Wouldn't wearing casual clothes actually be more complicated anyway? Trying to dress casually while maintaining a certain level of formality would probably have a stricter dress code.
It's not like suits are incredibly expensive. There are plenty of rental systems available, right?
They are doing something strange.
