Pitchayom Ophartnipus (World No. 18), a rising star in Thai women's badminton, has received a provisional suspension after testing positive for a banned substance during a doping test conducted ahead of the opening of the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.
The International Testing Agency (ITA) officially announced on the 21st (KST) on behalf of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) that "an Adverse Analytical Finding (AAF) for the banned substance 'Furosemide' was detected in the sample collected from Thai badminton player Pitchayom."
The sample in question was collected through an out-of-competition doping test conducted in Nagoya, Japan, on the 17th.
Furosemide is a substance classified as 'S5 Diuretics and Masking Agents' on the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Prohibited List. Its use is prohibited both in-competition and out-of-competition.
