Among these, home-based daycare centers accounted for 6,949 and private daycare centers accounted for 3,284, making up 92.2% of the total.
By region, Gyeonggi-do had the highest number with 3,234. This was followed by Seoul with 1,502, Gyeongnam with 994, Jeonnam/Gwangju with 633, Gyeongbuk with 609, Chungnam with 603, and Incheon with 594.
The most common reasons for closure were 'decrease in children' at 4,871 (43.9%) and 'management issues' at 3,477 (31.3%).
