Why is FOB inappropriate for containerized cargo?

FOB assumes the seller controls the goods until they cross the ship's rail. With containers the seller actually loses control at the terminal or container yard, days before loading. Using FOB leaves an uninsured gap during which the seller bears risk it cannot manage.
