When is the formal meeting between families usually held?

We have decided to get married.
We haven't had a formal meeting with both sets of parents to discuss it officially yet,
but we visit them often and it's pretty much as good as their consent.
We even visit their homes and eat meals together, getting along as if we are already family.
In this situation, is it okay to go ahead and book a wedding venue first?
