Is it just me...
I am a married man in my early 40s with two children. I never used to feel this way, but lately, every time I attend the funeral of a close friend's or acquaintance's parent, I am constantly reminded that I should treat my own parents better. However, since I am the head of my own household, I have been so focused on my professional and family life that I haven't been able to pay much attention to them. Being the youngest son in my family, I used to call them often and visit them in person, but lately, I haven't even been able to call or visit...
Then today, after having a drink with some close friends, I called them on my way home to say I would stop by the family home. As it turned out, my mother had caught a cold and needed to take Tylenol, but she was unsure whether to take one or two pills, so she had been planning to call me. I visited the house and brought her some bread, which she usually likes, and I made excuses, saying, "I'm sorry I haven't been in touch lately. Since I'm a provider myself, I've been so preoccupied with my own household..." Upon hearing that, my mother hugged me and told me that I am doing a great job. At that moment, I burst into tears and left shortly after saying my goodbyes... I feel so sorry and full of regret. I should be calling and visiting them more often, but I've been using my social and family life as an excuse... Is it just me?
