What is the difference between a trading company and a manufacturer-exporter?

A manufacturer-exporter produces and sells its own goods. A trading company buys from producers and resells abroad, adding sourcing, financing and market access. Trading companies often use transferable or back-to-back credits because they sit between two transactions.
