[Spoiler Alert] I have a question regarding the content of Odyssey

Is the content of Odyssey
a made-up story?
Or is it all based on Greek mythology,
or a well-structured novel based on Greek mythology
that was made into a movie?
It feels like a story I've seen somewhere before,
so I'm confused about how much of it is a new story.
