Usain Bolt's 2008 Olympic ceremony and his 100m record of 9.69 are overrated.

People say that if he had sprinted full throttle, he would have hit the 9.4s, or at least broken his 2009 record of 9.58.
If you calmly analyze the split times, you can quickly see that this is nonsense.

As you can see from this table,
before he slowed down, Bolt in '08 was already slightly slower in most segments compared to '09.
In total, you can see he was 0.04 seconds behind up to the 90m mark.
Then, because he slowed down to celebrate in the final 10m, he recorded 0.90 seconds for that segment.
If he had sprinted full throttle then, it is highly likely that even in peak condition, it would have been around 0.82 seconds.
In other words, if Bolt had sprinted full throttle during that 9.69 run, even with the most optimistic view, he would have recorded something around 9.61.
Due to the visual impact, the imagination regarding his final segment record is being overly exaggerated.
