I thought this missed home run call
was from Game 3 of the World Series between Atlanta and Walsh.
That's what I saw in the sports newspapers back then.
It turns out it was Game 1 of the ALCS.
In the end, with Baltimore trailing 4-3 with one out,
young fan Jeffrey Mayer caught a ball hitting the fence,
making it a game-tying home run.
Baltimore eventually lost 4-5 in extra innings,
and the Yankees won the series 4-1 to advance to the World Series.
Atlanta won Games 1 and 2 away at Yankee Stadium,
but after four consecutive losses, the Yankees won the World Series for the first time in 18 years.
I used to watch the World Series occasionally on NHK back then.
I thought the momentum shifted because Atlanta gave up this home run in Game 3 of the World Series, but that wasn't the case at all.
