As the 5th National Railway Network Construction Plan is scheduled to be announced within this November, attention is focused on whether the transportation network in northwestern Incheon will be expanded. On the 26th, National Assembly member Kim Kyo-heung of the Democratic Party (Incheon Seo-hae District Gap) urged the inclusion of Incheon transportation issues, such as the GTX-D and E lines and the Cheongna extension of the Daejang-Hongdae Line, in the National Railway Network during questioning of economic ministries at the National Assembly's Special Committee on Budget and Accounts.
During the session, Rep. Kim focused his questioning on the poor transportation conditions in the northwestern metropolitan area and the Incheon Airport railway infrastructure issues addressed to Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Kim Yun-deok.
Rep. Kim pointed out, "Residents in the northwestern metropolitan areas of Incheon and Gyeonggi spend more than two hours commuting to Seoul," and noted, "The railway infrastructure for Incheon Airport, which accommodates over 100 million passengers annually, currently consists of only the Airport Railroad."
In particular, Rep. Kim emphasized that the GTX-D and E lines and the Daejang-Hongdae Line Cheongna extension project must be included in the 5th National Railway Network Construction Plan.
