Taiwan and China should be viewed as having a closer relationship than mere exchange
Since China talks about a Taiwan war while mentioning unification,
Koreans are making the mistake of comparing it to the situation on the Korean Peninsula.
However, the current relationship between China and Taiwan is almost at the level of a single country.
Numerous Taiwanese SMEs have expanded into China for a long time,
Taiwanese university students go to China to find jobs,
the vast majority of tourists in Taiwan are Chinese, and there are many marriages between Chinese and Taiwanese people.
Even East and West Germany were not at that level before reunification.
While Taiwan's salary levels are higher at a 2:1 ratio, it is not a massive difference.
Half of the Taiwanese people are steeped in Sinocentrism and are pro-China;
they simply want to maintain the status quo, but if that is not possible, the atmosphere is toward accepting "One Country, Two Systems" instead of war.
The country most concerned about this is the United States. Therefore, they expect the U.S. to intervene directly in a Taiwan war,
along with simultaneous intervention from Japan, South Korea, and Australia.
In any case, it is completely different from inter-Korean relations. It should be viewed not as a stage of exchange, but as a process of becoming one country.
