Usually, in ball sports, factions prevent good results

Even in professional leagues, even if a team has overwhelming talent,
if internal factional infighting is severe, team chemistry breaks down.
Even if they see short-term success, an era of darkness eventually follows lol.
In cases like national teams where players gather for a short period,
even if there are factions, if an overwhelmingly dominant captain holds the center,
the players underneath will fall in line and the team will function.
If they can't do that, they collapse like a disorganized mob lol.
There is a limit to this, no matter how great the coach is,
which is why people emphasize locker room leadership for a reason.
