Men's and Women's Table Tennis Singles World Rankings

‌

As teased in the previous post,
Japan's Sora Matsushima
has risen to World No. 1.
She is currently 19 years old, and while I expected her to reach the top someday,
she climbed there much faster than anticipated.
This marks the first non-Chinese World No. 1
since Timo Boll in 2018.
Wang Chuqin, who has not competed since this April,
has dropped to 4th.
This is likely the first time since the era of Ma Wenguang and Wang Tao,
when European dominance in the 1990s pushed China back,
that no Chinese player is ranked within the top 3.

There are no major changes in the women's rankings.
Wang Manyu, who enjoyed her first career stint at World No. 1 for two weeks,
has dropped to 2nd,
and Sun Yingsha has returned to No. 1.
Depending on the outcome of this Smash tournament,
it will be decided who will hold the top spot for a while.
