Why the "Resident Japanese" issue is more serious than pro-Japanese collaborators

Summary of the differences between the two.
1. Nationality
Pro-Japanese collaborators: Koreans who collaborated with Japan during the colonial era.
Resident Japanese: Japanese nationals who settled in Korea after Japan's defeat in the war.
※ Reason for staying?
The US military government, which occupied Japan, took measures to prevent Japanese residents in Korea from taking most of their looted assets back to their home country upon their return to Japan.
Consequently, they decided to settle in Korea because they did not want to lose their wealth.
2. How they became wealthy
Pro-Japanese collaborators: Participated in the Japanese exploitation of Korea.
Resident Japanese:
Those who were looked down upon as low-class citizens in mainland Japan
came to Korea, received land grants from the Government-General,
exploited tenant farmers, and became wealthy in a short period.
They judged that it was better to live in Korea
than to return to the mainland and be treated as low-class again.
3. After Liberation
Pro-Japanese collaborators: A tiny minority were condemned. Even if punishment was insufficient, their "existence" was identified.
Resident Japanese:
They learned Korean and changed their names to Korean names. Using looted assets,
they created fake family genealogies, bought up large numbers of Korean servants,
and posed as wealthy Koreans or local influential figures behind a veil of humanity.
They have served as local elites for generations.
(Unlike cases where White people colonized Black/Asian people, where "racial disguise" is impossible due to different races,
this is a unique phenomenon possible because Koreans and Japanese are racially similar)
4. After Liberation ~ Present
Pro-Japanese collaborators: Basic social vigilance, information sharing, and sanction policies are maintained.
Resident Japanese:
Due to intentional hiding, their scale and generations cannot be identified. There is no accurate information.
Because their nationality has been laundered, it is impossible to know if they are Korean or Japanese.
It is estimated that they are positioned within conservative parties, the media, and industry.
5. Future
A significant number of politicians, artists, entrepreneurs, and journalists
who exhibit pro-Japanese behavior without reason are presumed to be descendants of "Resident Japanese" rather than simple "pro-Japanese Koreans."
While "pro-Japanese Koreans" perform overt, provocative actions to serve as social scapegoats and test the waters,
the "Resident Japanese" are expected to hide quietly in the background, monitoring social trends as anti-Japanese vigilance fades,
and eventually "come out" at a time when Korea is in decline.
