They became so obsessed with these things that by the time of the White Lotus Rebellion in 1796, the Eight Banners were in a state where they couldn't even ride horses lol
Originally, the Manchus maintained the custom of everyone going to Manchuria once a year to hunt so as not to forget their Manchu roots
But since they no longer knew how to ride horses, the custom simply vanished.. They couldn't even properly suppress an easy rebellion like the White Lotus Rebellion, taking nine years to finally stop it
And in 1840, the famous First Opium War..
Above all, it was partly due to the overwhelming population of the Han people, and partly because they became immersed in the diverse Han culture rather than the Manchu culture, which involved living alongside the Han and talking about nothing but boring daily hunting... they even forgot the Manchu language.. Even the Emperors tried to save it by reprimanding them, but in the end, they couldn't stop the tide..
The funny thing is, there is a story that when Joseon envoys were dispatched to deliver tribute, the Han people of the Qing Dynasty giggled while looking at the Joseon people's attire. Initially, the Manchus forced the queue hairstyle and Manchu clothing upon the Han to rule them and instill a sense of humiliation,
but before they knew it, they had forgotten that Joseon's Hanbok was once a garment similar to their own Hanfu..
They came to believe that their customs had always been the Chui-jang (traditional Manchu clothing) and the queue.
