The video that changed my basketball routine
My basketball routine changed after watching this video.
I used to have a training routine whenever I went to play basketball,
but because I felt like I was getting older, I had been lazily just focusing heavily on shooting practice.
My routine used to be shooting 20-30 free throws, long-range shots, and three-pointers from various positions,
and practicing different types of layups or floaters.
But after watching the video above, I changed it to include dribbling.
Now, my routine has settled into practicing dribbling as soon as I step onto the court.
I incorporate pockets, drops, and various combinations that aren't in the video,
so I do about three times more than what is shown. (I do 500 with my left hand and 500 with my right hand)
I think I've been doing this every day for about two months..
And my dribbling has improved tremendously.
Of course, that doesn't mean I can suddenly blow by people I couldn't before.
I believe you don't beat defenders with dribbling alone, but rather with shooting and hesitation.
However, my ball control has definitely improved.
Also, among the dribbling drills shown in the video above,
starting the training where I pound the ball (the most basic dribble) strongly with my left hand was the most helpful.
Like anyone else, my weak hand (left) was much weaker than my dominant hand (right),
but just by consistently doing 150 very strong left-hand pound dribbles,
all my other left-hand dribbling skills improved (crossovers, between the legs, through the legs, behind the back, etc.).
Of course, I'm still just a casual player, but I'll keep working hard haha.
Writing this while heading out for my early morning workout! I'm off to do some dribbling drills today.
