(Hwaseong=Yonhap News) Reporter Kim Kwang-ho = Hwaseong, Gyeonggi-do, which has maintained a population of over 1 million for two consecutive years and became a special city as of January 1 this year, is pushing to establish 4 general districts (gu...) under its jurisdiction.
The west side is a place where Southeast Asian workers are concentrated as many small and medium-sized enterprises have moved there due to high land prices in Ansan; it is also an area concentrated with agriculture and livestock farming, and offers natural attractions due to its coastline.
The east side is a very young city, centered around the largest new town, Dongtan, which has attracted Samsung Electronics and many large corporate research facilities, resulting in a massive population of young couples, children, and middle/high school students. In particular, many professionals in their 20s and 30s commute to Seoul via KTX and GTX.
Among Korean cities, it is an extremely polarized city.
