The issue regarding KEPCO's advance electricity billing payments isn't solely due to the construction of the power grid for the Honam semiconductor fabs. : Clien m.clien.net Some people are saying they pulled forward 25 trillion KRW in electricity payments to use for the Honam semiconductor fab power grid construction, but that is only looking at one side of the story. KEPCO's accumulated deficit has already reached about 30 trillion KRW due to the 24.4 trillion KRW deficit in 2022, and even worse is the 200 trillion KRW in debt. KEPCO's operating profit for the first half was 2.8 trillion KRW, but it turned into a deficit starting from the second quarter, and operating profit is expected to be around 3 trillion KRW in the second half of 2027. I never expected to see a post like this on Clien.
It would have been perfect if they had also connected the problems caused by the rising unit costs of renewable energy (solar, offshore wind) and the necessity of nuclear power.
