Can an L/C exclude or modify a UCP 600 article?

Yes. UCP 600 binds the parties except to the extent it is expressly modified or excluded by the credit. To do this properly the credit should name the article and state what replaces it, otherwise the exclusion may be ineffective or ambiguous.
