Why does Odysseus pluck a dry bowstring?

When hunting or before attacking an enemy, they pluck the dry bowstring once before the enemy notices and then fire the arrow; what is the meaning behind this?
Should I interpret this as being similar to Tanjiro from Demon Slayer shouting, "Akaza, I'm going to cut you down now!" from behind?
