Is the status of those Pokemon cards high in Japan?

When TWICE met Choo Sung-hoon in Japan, the TWICE members seemed to really love it when he gave them those as a gift.
Seeing that there are cards worth 25 billion won, I guess it's a very mainstream culture?
Do people actually play duels with them, like in Yu-Gi-Oh?
