Giving your own card to subordinates to go eat

If I were the subordinate,
I think I would try to read the room and spend about 130–150% of the usual meal budget.
But if a boss gives you their card and says,
"Don't just go eat, go eat something delicious,"
then if you have two clueless or immature new hires,
there is a high possibility they might actually do that(?).
I'm not saying they did a good job,
but I don't think it's necessary to write a whole post calling them completely thoughtless.
On the other hand, if I were the boss,
I would just let it go as an absurd happening.
Even if I felt bad looking at the transaction history,
I could just stop giving them the card next time.
Or, if the amount is going to make me that upset,
I should have just said, "Go eat something for under a certain amount."
How many new hires these days actually act with that kind of sense anyway?
While keeping it under 40,000 KRW might be considered "sensible,"
even when someone offers to buy coffee, there are people who don't just get an Americano,
but order the most expensive drink with lots of extra add-ons.
If you didn't specify "just an Americano" from the start,
but then badmouth them behind their backs for ordering expensive coffee when you said you'd buy it,
that feels a bit petty.
If you say you'll buy it, just buy it coolly;
if you can't be cool about it, it's better not to buy it at all.
If you want the satisfaction of treating people,
but you want them to automatically eat within a certain budget,
then you shouldn't buy it in the first place.
For the record, if someone buys me coffee, I drink an Americano,
and if they buy me a meal, I eat the cheapest thing.
I'm the type of person who returns at least as much as I receive,
so I find it more comfortable to just pay for my own food..
