We have already experienced the "Watermelon Rebellion,"
and we have reached a precarious situation like a candle in the wind,
but in the end, we have the experience of suppressing that rebellion.
Compared to that time, the current pro-Moon faction
has become much weaker in terms of influence,
and the only thing they can do is work to
drive a wedge between the government, the party, and the party members.
That is the only remaining power left to them in their lowly position.

This is a power struggle between the old mainstream and the new mainstream,
occurring as the existing political forces that became mainstream through the Moon Jae-in administration
lost control over the presidential candidacy, party leadership, and nominations
to Lee Jae-myung, a non-mainstream figure who emerged through the choice of party members.
The current trend of attacking Lee Jae-myung and then attacking Kim Min-seok
is a final desperate struggle using that remaining meager power.
From a political perspective,
the motion for consent to arrest was used not merely as a "matter of conscience or judicial judgment,"
but as a negotiating tool to force the handover of influence over party leadership and nominations.
Because the motion was actually passed after a full concession was refused,
there is significant basis for party members to interpret this
as an attempt to seize party leadership due to the chronological flow of events.
In other words,
a portion of the non-Lee Jae-myung faction, including those from the pro-Moon camp, demanded
a practical transfer of authority, such as resignation, stepping back to a secondary role, or giving up influence over nominations,
and Lee Jae-myung refused this while proposing
integrated management and fair nominations.
After the negotiations failed, the motion for consent to arrest was passed.
Regarding the motion for consent to arrest Lee Jae-myung in the National Assembly,
the vote on September 21, 2023, resulted in 149 in favor,
136 against, 6 abstentions, and 4 invalid votes.
The quorum for passing was 148 votes.
Since even combining all members of the People Power Party, the Justice Party, and pro-government leaning lawmakers totaled at most around 120 votes, the media estimated that about 29 votes in favor came from the Democratic Party side. Including abstentions and invalid votes, it was at most 39 votes.
