I'm so flustered because I lost my phone lol

I'm studying abroad in the US
While canoeing with my kids in a shallow stream over the weekend
The canoe capsized omg
As I went to catch the kids drifting away
While wearing their life jackets, I lost my phone in the water
I couldn't find it no matter how hard I looked, so I gave up
No calls, no texts, no payments, no banking, and I can't log in to the site to submit my homework because I can't reinstall the authentication app on a new phone in time for the US deadline lol I need to verify my Verizon number to get a replacement SIM for my existing number, but since I can't do that right now, I have to drive 40 minutes just to handle my homework (and I expect a wait time of over an hour)
I've realized once again
just how important a mobile phone is.
