People calling for the abolition of military service exemptions are being spiteful
Honestly, whether athletes go to the military or not,
what does that have to do with us? If there are no military service exemptions,
will baseball or soccer players play their hearts out
in the WBC, Olympics, or World Cup? I would probably just half-heartedly play too.
Then the games will just become boring, and we, the people who enjoy sports,
will be the ones suffering the consequences. But you want to abolish military service exemptions?
It just looks like you're being spiteful, trying to force others to go
just because you've already served your time.
If that happens and world-class players like Son Heung-min
eventually naturalize to other countries, South Korea won't be able to make it to the World Cup.
We'll be left empty-handed like China.
They might even naturalize to China, where they offer more money.
I believe it is premature to abolish military service exemptions.
I hope people develop a more macroscopic perspective
by considering all circumstances comprehensively.
