To those who watched "Real Men" 10 years ago..

There was an entertainment show called "Real Men" about military life, and there is an episode I'm curious about. One day, after entering the training center, they were called to the parade ground at midnight for night emergency training. However, one person named Sam Kim didn't show up. They searched for him for a long time, and eventually, a very strict platoon leader found him in the barracks and woke him up.
Is there a specific reason why they must search until the very end to wake up that one person the moment someone fails to show up?
If one person like Sam Kim is missing, couldn't they just think, "Oh, I guess he's too sleepy to come out today. Let's just leave him be"?
