What is the difference between a sales contract and a purchase contract?

They describe the same contract from opposite sides. A sales contract is drafted from the seller's perspective and a purchase contract from the buyer's. The substance should be identical, but the drafting party usually allocates risk in its own favour, so read whichever version you did not write especially carefully.
