'Recusal System for Cases Involving Police Officers' Families' to be Implemented

The 'Recusal System' will be implemented, requiring investigations to be conducted by a different police station rather than the one where the officer is stationed, if the officer's spouse, parent, child, or sibling is involved as a party to the case. The purpose is to enhance the fairness and credibility of investigations by preemptively blocking potential conflicts of interest between police officers and parties involved in a case.
The National Police Agency announced on the 8th that it is implementing the 'Guidelines for the Recusal System in Cases Involving Police Officers' Family Members.'
According to the police, the recusal system applies when the spouse, direct ascendants/descendants, or siblings of a police officer—who is currently serving or has served within the last three years at the investigating police station—are included as parties to the case, such as suspects. Once such a fact is confirmed, the investigator must file for recusal and, under the direction of the Metropolitan or Provincial Police Agency, transfer the case to another police station within the same court jurisdiction.
