People often do "one-month stays" in Southeast Asia, but it seems like nobody would ever do it in Japan lol
Looking at things like this, people are incredibly honest when it comes to money lol.
In front of travel YouTubers, they say Japan's cost of living is so reasonable.
They say things like "it's cheaper than Thailand,"
but when it comes to actually doing a one-month stay, many go to Thailand, but absolutely nobody goes to Japan lol.
First of all, the housing costs are on a whole different level.
Especially if you rent for a month, the price difference is astronomical.
Japan doesn't really have a concept of monthly rentals, so you have to book an entire month via Airbnb or a hotel,
whereas in Thailand, if you go to local areas, there are condos and apartments available for monthly rent everywhere.
The difference in housing costs makes Japan at least 4 times more expensive.
The only thing where the price difference between Southeast Asia and Japan is small is manufactured goods and grocery prices,
but the problem is that for foreigners doing a one-month stay, those things don't really matter.
And you need to get regular massages and enjoy other services,
and of course, these things are way, way more expensive in Japan. Taxi fares are expensive too.
You'll realize it immediately if you try living there yourself for even just one month.
No matter how much people talk about the weak Yen, Japan is a country that is incomparably more expensive than Southeast Asia.
