Isn't Iran's location really ambiguous?

When we think of the Middle East, the locations that immediately come to mind
are mostly the Arabian Peninsula and North Africa,
but Iran sits right between those areas and West Asia, making it really ambiguous....
When people think of the Middle East Wars, you'd think Iran would have participated as a Middle Eastern country,
but in reality, Iran has never participated. Although they did provide some support to Israel....
It is also well known these days that while Iran is Islamic, it is not Arab,
so it seems to be in a position where the distinction between Asia and Africa is most ambiguous...
